Elementary school teacher in Carrollton, FB for 23 years
by Joe Simnacher

Diane McParland Adair taught elementary school in Carrollton and Farmers Branch for 23 years before retiring in 1979.

Mrs. Adair, 92, died July 2 of cancer at Walnut Place nursing home in Dallas. Services were July 6. She was entombed in Hillcrest Mausoleum.

Mrs. Adair became a teacher in her mid 40s, after raising her family, said her son, Kent Adair of Dallas. "She was real good at what she did," her son said. "She was kind of a late bloomer." Born in Oakland, Calif., Mrs. Adair attended San Jose State Teachers College, now San Jose State University. She moved to Texas after meeting Jimmy Adair, manager of the Dallas Eagles, Dallas' team in the Texas baseball league. Mr. Adair retired in 1976 after a 50-year career in baseball. He died in 1982.

Mrs Adair completed her bachelor's degree at North Texas. She returned to the Denton university to earn her master's degree in the 1950s.

Starting her career in 1956, Mrs. Adair taught at R. E. Good Elementary, Web Chapel Elementary and Woodlake Elementary, all in Carrollton, and Farmers Branch Elementary in Farmers Branch.

"She loved children," her son said.

Mrs. Adair lived in Carrollton for 56 years. Carrollton had 800 residents when she arrived and Farmers Branch had 350, her son said.

Mrs. Adair taught Sunday school for about 60 years. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Carrollton, before joining Royal Haven Baptist Church in Dallas 38 years ago.

She was also a member of the Farmers Branch Woman's Club, Delta Kappa Gamma Society (a professional teachers group), the North Forty Book Club and the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Retired Teachers Association.

In addition to her son, Mrs. Adair is survived by two sisters, Marjorie McCoy of Castro Valley, Calif. and Genevieve Ferguson of Rogue River, Ore.; two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
