Parties Honor Bride-Elect

Nola Toombs, bride-elect of Lt. Jack W. Bishop, was honored with a miscellaneous shower at the Irving Club House Friday, August 1. Guests were given clothespins with white crepe paper and pink ribbons to dress as brides for the opening game. The honoree was presented a very large antique rolling pin on which all of the guests signed their names. Cake and punch were served to thirty guests.
The hostesses were Mrs. J. E. Kelley, Mrs. W. E. Johnson, Mrs. K. L. Ford, Mrs. F. A. Warden, Miss LaVerne DeHaes presided at the bridesbook.
Saturday night the birde-to-be was honored with a buffet dinner and personal shower given by Mrs. J. Huskey of Plano. Guests attending were Mrs. H. S. Martin, Mr. and Mrs. T. R. Toombs and Karen, and Mrs. Carrie Watts, Wesley and Wanda Watts of Dallas, Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Tombs from Irving, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Toombs, Renetta and Johnetta Toombs and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Harkins and son.
Miss Toombs was complimented at a party given by Mrs. Ray Ogle, Sunday afternoon. the house party included Misses Pat Meador, Eva Myers, Sara Myers, and Mrs. J. Frank Marcom.

Bishop Receives Commission

Jack W. Bishop, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Bishop, received his commission as lieutenant in the United States Army on August 9th, 1947. Lt. Bishop attended Bouce Storey Junior High School in Dallas and was graduated from Carrollton High School in 1945.  After finishing high school, he attended A&M College until his 17th birthday, when he entered the Army. He was sent to Scott Field, Illinois, where he attended any Army school until January 1st 1946. He was later made cryptograph instructor at Scott Field and also instructed evening classes in trigonometry at the University of Illinois. Lt. Bishop was also stationed at Langley Field, Virginia for a few months before entering. Officers Candidate School at Fort Benning Georgia in February of 1947. Lt. and Mrs. Bishop are not at Fort Benning where he is receiving special training until the first of next year. Mrs. Bishop in the former Miss Nola Toombs, former student of Carrollton High School, and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Toombs.

LT. BISHOP ASSUMES ATHLETIC DUTIES
Second Lt. Jack W. Bishop has been designated athletic and recreation officer for the Infantry Center's School Troops, and assigned his new duties the first of March.
An active participant in sports, Lieutenant Bishop attended Texas Agricultural and Mechanical College, where his athletic record included football, baseball, soccer, basketball, volleyball, swimming and track. During his army tour, the new A & R officer played basketball with the 78th AACS Unit at Langley Field, Va.
A graduate of the Ft. Benning Infantry officers' candidate school and the army cryptographic school at Scott Field, Ill., Lieutenant Bishop hails from Dallas.

A son was born to Lt. and Mrs. Jack W. Bishop in Puerto Rico on September 1. Mrs. Bishop is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Toombs of Irving. Lt Bishop is the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Bishop

Now at Fort Hood

FORT HOOD, Texas (Spo.) - First Lt. Jack W. Bishop of Carrollton recently arrived at Fort Hood for assignment. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Bishop of Dallas.
Lt. Bishop previously served in the Caribbean Theater of Operations. Prior to entering the service, he attended Southern Methodist University.
His wife, Mrs. Nola M. Bishop, an two children reside in Carrollton.

1st Lt. Jack W. Bishop Undergoing Pilot Training

SAN MARCOS AIR FORCE BASE, Texas. Feb. 8 - 1st Lt. Jack W. Bishop, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Bishop of 2116 Crown Road, Dallas, is presently undergoing liaison pilot training at San Marcos Air Force Base, Texas, the home of the Air Force's Liaison and Helicopter pilot training schools
Lt. Bishop came to San Marcos on January 29.
