ButtramServices for Anita June Tucker Buttram, 67, of
Mabank, were held Jan. 3, 2014, at the Mabank Church of Christ under the
direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home in Mabank. Interment
followed at the Post Oak Cemetery.
Buttram was born Oct. 22, 1946, in Denton, to Helen Josephine (Watson)
and John Wesley Tucker, Jr., and died peacefully Dec. 29, 2013, at the
Hospice of East Texas in Tyler, after a prolonged battle with cancer.
She graduated from R. L. Turner High School in Carrollton, and received
bachelor and master degrees in education at North Texas State
University.
She was also among the first females in the state to receive a master’s
degree in public school administration.
As a fierce advocate for childhood and secondary education, her career
spanned 33 years. She taught high school literature and composition as
well as middle school English and speech at R.L. Turner High School,
Jackson Middle School in Grand Prairie, and Martin High School in
Arlington.
She was also the director for the Title I Reading Program for the Grand
Prairie ISD.
After 18 years of teaching, she focused on school administration in
Arlington as a high school Assistant Principal and junior high school
Principal.
She finished her career as the Executive Director of Personnel for five
years, striving to hire the very best teachers and principals at the
Arlington ISD.
She was a woman of faith and was a member of the Mabank Church of
Christ.
She also participated in many charitable community projects as a member
of the Arlington Kiwanis Club and Pinnacle Women’s Club in Mabank.
She was an accomplished musician, playing the clarinet in marching and
symphonic bands and as a member of the All-State Choir in high school.
She enjoyed singing throughout her lifetime. She also enjoyed
needlework, refinishing furniture, gardening, canning, and spending time
with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother.
Survivors include her loving husband of 44 years, William O. Buttram,
III., of Mabank; children Jonathan William and Angela Hope Buttram of
Tyler; grandchildren Nicholas John and Alexandra Hope Buttram of Tyler;
father; uncle Foster Sigler of Lewisville; brother John Edd Tucker and
wife Lynda of Boerne; sister Sue Ann Stewart of Thermopolis, Wyo.;
brother James D. Buttram and wife Phyllis of Duncanville; sister-in-law
Glenda Buttram of Duncanville; nieces and nephews Amy and John Barag,
Beth and Kris Fuston, all of Austin, Cody Stewart of Thermopolis, Wyo.,
and Jenny and Troy Johnson of Frisco; six great-nieces and nephews;
numerous cousins and friends. |
