IN THE CARE OF

Patsy Marshalleen Shafer Mitchell went peacefully to her eternal home on November 15, 2023. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., at Webb Chapel Church of Christ. The service will be officiated by her former student, Steven Polk. There will be a visitation on Monday evening, November 20, 2023, from 6 to 8, at Rhoton Funeral Home.

Marshalleen was born on July 25, 1932, to Juanita (Marshall) Shafer and Leslie William Shafer of Pilot Point, Texas. She married James Weldon Mitchell, the love of her life, at the Farmers Branch Church of Christ on August 27, 1951. They were married for 52 years.

Her first passion in life was being a Christian and walking closely with her Lord. Her second passion was teaching and learning, which she passed down to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Marshalleen began her career in education as a school secretary for the Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD. She went back to North Texas State University to complete her Bachelor’s in Education, while raising her family. Weldon and Marshalleen worked together in all things. Completing her education was no exception. Weldon encouraged her abundantly so she could fulfill this dream. Upon completing her degree, she taught at Central Elementary for 30 years. She later attended North Texas State University and obtained her Master’s in Education. Four of her five grandchildren attended her graduation ceremony. She leaves a legacy of lives touched by her dedication to teaching and learning.

Marshalleen was preceded in death by her husband Weldon Mitchell, parents, brother Bill Shafer, brother Jim Shafer, her infant daughter Melissa April and Melvin Long.

Marshalleen is survived by her son, James Mitchell (Ann), her daughter, Melanie Hayes (Keith), and daughter, Annissa Mitchell (Mark Thompson). She is also survived by her sister, Elizabeth Richardson. She is survived by grandchildren Melissa Cox (Matt), Bradley Mitchell, Heather Mitchell, Laurel Warren (Rob), and Ashton Orr (Alex). She is survived by great-grandchildren Kenah Cox, Koy Cox, Aiden Warren, Adyson Warren, Hudson Warren, Holden Warren, Jude Mitchell, Maddox Orr, Sutton Orr, and Beckett Orr. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews, who loved her very much.

The family encourages memorials to VITAS Hospice, or the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Educational Foundation, or to the charity of your choice.
