Lillie Mae Clevenger
April 5, 1921 - February 28, 2014

Lillie Mae Clevenger was born April 5, 1921, in Shamrock, Texas. She was the 5th child born to Andrew and Zona Pearl Honeycutt. Lillie was baptized as a teenager and remained a faithful member of the Church of Christ all of her life.

Lillie graduated from Sam Norwood High School in 1940. On October 26, 1940, Lillie married Tom Clevenger in Shamrock, Texas. They worked as tenant farmers until 1942 when Tom was drafted into the army. While Tom served as an Army MP in England, Lillie lived in Amarillo and worked as a long distance operator for Southwestern Bell. Lillie's beginning salary was $15 per week. When unions were formed, Lillie's salary jumped to a whopping $36 per week. She stayed with this job for four years when Tom returned from the war. They moved to Odessa, Texas where daughter Sandra was born in 1946. In 1947 Tom and Lillie moved to Dallas. Three more children were born: Carl (1948), Becky (1952), and Mark (1954).

Tom worked for Braniff Airways and Lillie was a homemaker. Lillie was known as a very talented seamstress. In later years, she made beautiful quilts for family and friends. Tom and Lillie were members of the Webb Chapel Church of Christ where Tom served as an elder until his death in 1976.

As the children got older, Lillie worked as a cashier in a Carrollton school cafeteria. Later, she worked as an optical technician at Omega Optical in Farmers Branch. After Tom's death in 1976, Lillie continued to live and work in the Carrollton/Farmers Branch area. In 1982, Lillie retired and moved back to Amarillo. She lived in Amarillo until the year 2000 when she returned to Dallas.

At the time of her death, Lillie was a resident of the Mulberry Manor Nursing home in Stevensville, Texas. Lillie died on February 28, 2014 at the age of 92 years and 10 months. She is survived by her four children: Sandra Hammontree of Hanna, Oklahoma, Carl Clevenger and wife Grace of McKinney, Texas, Becky Casler and husband Harold of Plano, Texas, and Mark Clevenger and wife Judith of Granbury, Texas 15 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
