Teen Girl Drowns On Outing

FARMERS BRANCH - A Sunday outing on bicycles ended in tragedy when a teen-age girl drowned after she plunged off a steep foot trail into Farmers Branch Creek.

Dead was Gretchen Louise Frink, 16, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. I Frink, 13608 Onyx.

Police said Gretchen and her brother, David, 13, pedaled a mile east of their home for an afternoon ride over hilly trails of an unoccupied estate near Golfing Green and Braemar.

Police said David watched in horror as his sister and her bicycle catapulted off an embankment into the dammed up creek. Police said David went into the water in a vain effort to save his sister.

He got help from Farmers Branch fireman who plunged to recover her body.
