OBITUARY

Death Takes C. M. Furneaux

C. M. Furneaux, member of one of Texas' oldest families and vice-president of the First National Bank of Sudan, Lamb County, died Tuesday in a Lubbock hospital after an operation.
Furneaux' ancestor, John Jackson of Devonshire, England, decided to move to Texas more than a century ago when he heard it described as "a country with a delightful climate, no chilling winds nor driving snows, but one continuous spring and summer. All manner of fruits and wild game are abundance. The clear and beautiful streams are stocked with plenty of fish."
The Jacksons settled on 320 acres of land in Peters Colony, called Stewardsville, the present site of Dallas.  Among their descendants were John L. Furneaux, uncle of C. M. Furneaux, who lived in or near Dallas all his life and pioneered scientific farming in this area.
