OBITUARY

Horace "H.L." Landon Giles, 85, peacefully passed away at home Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011, surrounded by loving family members. Funeral: 10 a.m. Wednesday at Richland Hills Baptist Church. Interment: Birdville Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Olivet Funeral Home. Memorials: May be made to the H.L. Giles Fund, Richland Hills Baptist Church. H.L. was born Sept. 30, 1926, near Decatur, Wise County. He was the second oldest of the nine sons of Homer and Pearl Martin Giles. He graduated from Carrollton High School in Carrollton and completed two years at North Texas State in Denton. He was a carpenter and homebuilder in Tarrant County, where he built several hundred beautiful homes. H.L. married the love of his life, Mary Anne Baldwin, on June 20, 1948. In 1952, they moved to Richland Hills, where they reared their five precious children. They were charter members of Richland Hills Baptist Church where H.L. served faithfully as a deacon and servant of Jesus Christ. H.L. enjoyed hunting, gardening, playing 42 with his brothers, and hunting Easter eggs with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He gallantly battled cancer for 29 years and nine months and never once complained. When asked how he felt, he replied, "I'm fine." H.L. was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Douglas, Bobby and Jackie Paul; and a stillborn sister, Linda Sue. Farewell, Beloved, 'til we meet in heaven! Survivors: His wife of 63 years, Mary Anne; their children, Gayla Elliott, Michael Giles, Nancy McIntosh (Steve), James Giles (Linda), Janet Giles, and special friend, Ed Redman; grandchildren, Michael Giles (Tiffiney), Stephen Giles (Angie), Mandy Maxwell (Jonathen), Kristin Drake (Scott), Shaun McIntosh (Andrea); stepgrandchildren, Lyndsie and Bailey Eades, Eric and Jason Hughes; great-grandchildren, Brandon, Kendall, Tristin, Skylar, Jaici, Eyan, Emalee, and soon-to-be-born Lochlan; his brothers, Homer, B.W., Ramon, Gene and Gary; and a large extended family and friends.
