Abe Godfrey Arrives Home With Discharge

Abe Godfrey arrived home Friday night at 7 with a discharge from the army.
Abe was a staff sergeant when discharged and had received a citation from V-Adm. Hill of the Navy after action in Okinawa and Iwo Jima. He served in that section as army radio operator on the USS Auburn.
The citation read:
"The commander Amphibious Force expresses appreciation to Oliver Godfrey, Technician Fourth Grade, army of the United States for efficient loal service during extended operations against the enemy. He participated with credit in operations for the assult and capture of Iwo Jima and Okinawa Gunto. His faithful performance of duty under trying and hazardous conditions was commendable.

Godfrey, Oliver F., 82, of Irvine, passed August 13, 2006. Survived by wife, Elna Ruth; sons, Don Francis & Paul William; and 2 grandchildren. Service was August 15, 2006 at University Methodist Church. Neptune Society of Orange County
