OBITUARY

Mrs. Griggs Dies; Leaves 65 Survivors

Mary Mary Elizabeth Griggs who is survived by sixty three direct descendants and two sisters, died Tuesday morning at her home 5603 Tremont. She would have been 90 June 17. She had lived in Dallas about fifty years.
Mrs. Griggs was born in Missouri and at 4 was brought to Texas by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Anderson Felker. They settled at Plano, Collin County and she had lived at Plano and Dallas since. She attended the old Bethel School for Girls at McKinney and was married in 1870 to Elisha Griggs at Plano. He died ten years ago. He was a Confederate soldier, a planter and a stockman.
Mrs. Griggs was a Baptist and still held her membership in the Liberty Baptist Church north of Dallas, which her parents built, having provided the money and helped to organize it, relatives said.
Surviving are seven daughters, Mrs. W. H. Butler, Mrs. C. J. Love, Mrs. G. H. Jackson and Mrs. Charles R. Simon, all of Dallas; Mrs. W. C. Larkin, Oklahoma City; Mrs. J. L. Jackson, Wichita Falls; Mrs. R. L. Ritchie, Fort Worth; a son Fielding B. Griggs, Dallas; two sisters, Mrs. O. H. Dodson, Chillicothe, and MRs. Dan Dudley, Lewisville; twenty grandchildren including two overseas; thirty-one great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sparkman-Brand Funeral Chapel, 2115 Ross, with the Rev. Earl Anderson of the Munger Place Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Cemetery Hill, the family burying ground north of Dallas. Pallbearers will be Coyt Butler, J. L. Jackson, Griggs Butler, R. Fee Ritchie, Royal Larkin and John William Larkin.
