John Jackson, 79, Succumbs; Was Native of Peters Colony

John Jackson, 79, who was born near Carrollton in Peters Colony, early settlement of Dallas County, where his grandparents had come as English immigrants to the Texas frontier in 1848 to settle, died Thursday at his home in Wichita Falls, where he had lived for the last thirty years.
His body will be brought back to the place of his birth Friday by J. W. Rotan of Carrollton and funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. at the Carrollton Methodist Church. Burial will be at Carrollton. Pallbearers will be Harrison Nix, J. R. McFarland, Will Furneaux, Hamlyn Morgan, Bob Jackson and Oral Jones Jr.
During the long years that he lived in the Carrollton community Mr. Jackson was a farmer. In Wichita Falls he served several terms as County Commissioner.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Miss Virginia Jackson and Mrs. Bessie Jones of Wichita Falls; a son, J. Lee Jackson of Dallas, vice-president and sales manager of the R. B. George Machinery Company; three brothers, Alfred Jackson, Charlie Jackson, and Andrew Jackson of Dallas, a sister, Mrs. W. W. Willingham of Dallas.
Mr. Jackson was a nephew of George Jackson, author of Sixty Years in Texas.
