Some
of you from the early seventies may remember baseball coach Nick
LaBarbera. I don’t have much information, but his daughter posted that
he died last week, September 29, of cancer. Nick was from Texas City,
and had played high school basketball for my dad, J.D. Menasco. After we
moved to Carrollton, Coach LaBarbera came to coach at Vivian Field. He
then replaced Coach Arnold as baseball coach at Turner when Arnold
became Dean of Students. He later became a golf coach at Port Lavaca and
then the Houston area.
