Obituary of Dorothy Jane Long

Dorothy Jane Long, age 93, passed away on October 10, 2016, at Ardmore, Okla. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, October 17, 2016, at The Chapel at Griffin ~ Hillcrest with Pastor Donny Custer officiating. Interment to follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Dorothy was born on February 17, 1923 to J.C. Sewell and Sarah Elizabeth (West) Sewell, at Azle, Texas. The family moved to Carrollton, TX., where she attended Carrollton Schools. Dorothy married Lonnie Long on April 12, 1941, following Lonnie through the military they moved to Ft. Sill at Lawton, Okla. and even lived in Germany for a short time. For a while when he was deployed, Dorothy and her daughter lived with her family in Carrollton until he was discharged. They moved to Ardmore in 1950, and she was a homemaker for the most part of her life, and in 1984, that marriage ended. For a short time, she was the librarian for Ardmore Electric Log Library in the Daube Building. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, where Dorothy was a member of the Lois Class and was always willing to work in the church. She will be remembered for being full of life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Carolyn Clinton, six brothers and one sister.

Dorothy is survived by her granddaughter, Tammy Clinton-Smith, three great-grandchildren; Sarah Smith, Samantha Rushing, and Parker Smith, two great-great-grandchildren; Emmaleigh Rushing and Oliver Rushing, all of Ardmore, one brother, Monroe Sewell of Troupe, TX., and one sister, Mildred Glidewell, of Coppell, TX.

Visitation will be held from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, Sunday, October 16, 2016, at Griffin ~ Hillcrest Funeral Home.
