Long, Hubert Melvin
On May 24, 2020 at 10:14 am, Hubert Melvin Long of Carrollton, Texas went to see the Lord at age 88.

Melvin, as he was known, was a loving husband, father of two, grandfather of two, and great grandfather of one. He was born December 27, 1931 to Alma Blanche and Toy Long in Carrollton, Texas.

Melvin graduated with honors from Carrollton High School in 1949. He achieved the rank of Sergeant with the US Army while serving in the Korean War in the 1950s. He then worked as a manager and regional manager with A&P Food Stores. After 20 years with A&P, he joined Mrs. Bairds Bread as a route salesman where he remained until his retirement in 1995.

While with A&P he met and married his wife, Betty Sue Chow, whom he was married to for 51 years until her passing in 2009. Melvin and Betty raised two children, Wesley Glyn, 56 and Sheri Lyn, 54.

Melvin was an avid fisherman and a highly accomplished bowler. A true lover of sports, he admired Tom Landry and loved watching and attending his Dallas Cowboys football games. In addition, he rarely missed watching his Texas Rangers on television and regularly attended games. He was a proud and active member of The Grapevine Opry Association and loved country music. His favorite was Marty Robbins. He was active in the Farmers Branch Senior Center and the Farmers Branch Chamber of Commerce. He loved old westerns and collected John Wayne movies. He was a long-time active member of the First Christian Church in Carrollton and later the Webb Chapel Church of Christ. Melvin loved travelling, especially to Branson, Missouri and once enjoyed a long trip through Alaska with his wife Betty.

In 2012 Melvin married Marshalleen Mitchell, also a 1949 Carrollton High School graduate. She has three children Annissa Mitchell, Melanie Hayes, and James Mitchell. Melvin was proceeded I death by his mother Alma and father Toy.

He is survived by two brothers, Charles Long and Darrell Smith, his son, Wesley and his fiancée, Shelley; his daughter, Sheri; grandchildren, Megan Lee Long and Bradley Allen Long, and their mother Gail; great grandson, Elliot, his wife, Marshalleen and her children.

Melvin was an honest, hardworking, loving, and generous man who will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 1, 2020 beginning at 6:00 pm in the Brooks Family Chapel of the North Dallas Funeral Home Chapel, 2710 Valley View Lane, Farmers Branch, Texas 75234.

Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at 8:00 am also at the North Dallas Funeral Home Chapel and burial will follow at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery.
