OBITUARY

Angie Lou Mayo passed away peacefully on July 18, 2023 at the age of 85 with her loving family by her side. Tuesday would have been her 86th birthday.

Angie was born on July 25th, 1937, in Roscoe, TX to Sheron & Wilma Adams. She was proceeded in death by husband Bobby Mayo and son, David Mayo. She is survived by her twin granddaughters, Sadie Mayo and Sydney Mayo, nieces Marla Baker and Peggy Woodrell, Daughter-In-Law, Misti Mayo as well nieces/nephews and cousins.

She graduated from Loraine High School and went on to get her Bachelor’s degree in 1984.

Angie married Bobby Mayo and 10 years later they had David. Angie and Bobby were active members in the church for all of their married life. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Angie loved raising David. She and Bobby taught by example, showing him the value of hard work and service. Angie was happiest playing competitive tennis, photographing flowers, and serving the community as a volunteer.

While a member of Webb Chapel Church of Christ, Angie recognized she had a responsibility to the younger ladies of the church, teaching them the lessons of the Bible. She taught the Ladies’ Bible Class for many, many years.

Angie stayed active as a volunteer, working with many organizations. This experience resulted in her being voted to serve on several boards. In the city of Farmers Branch, she held several offices on the Historical Park Board.

Law enforcement was her passion. She spent many years supporting city, state and federal law enforcement agencies. During one ride-along with the Texas DPS, a drug arrest was made. When dispatch asked if the officer needed “back-up,” he looked at Angie and said, “No, I have my back-up.”

The following is a list of some of the organizations where she volunteered her time:

Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital
Chaired, Farmers Branch Community Watch Committee
Member, Farmers Branch Citizens On Patrol (COPS)
Member, FBI Dallas Citizens Academy Alumni Association
Board of Directors, Texas DPS, Region 1, Citizens Academy Alumni Association
Dallas Citizens Police Academy
Citizens Prosecutors Academy
DEA Citizens Alumni Association
Past President, Peter’s Colony Historical Society
Farmers Branch Historical Park Board
Friends of the Farmers Branch Historical Park Board
DFW Airport Police Department
Citizens Fire Academy of Farmers Branch
Farmers Branch Police Academy

Her image was memorialized when she was included in the City of Farmers Branch Police Recruitment Video of 2017 and featured in the Scottish Rite Hospital Annual Calendar shoot.

Angie also won several awards for her photographs of roses over many years at the City of Farmers Branch Celebration of Roses photo competition.

Angie loved life, loved spicy food and loved coming to church. Angie was always planning her next meal after church and the spicier the better. Her newest ministry at church was sitting at the entrance of the auditorium greeting all as they arrived. She tried to make sure all newcomers were touched and welcomed personally.

Angie had many stories and felt the sharing of these was a way she could motivate and encourage others. Angie had many comical sayings such as “Just because I’m country doesn’t mean I’m dumb”.

One of Angie’s favorite sayings was, “Flowers are for the living, not the dead!” So with that in mind, in lieu of flowers, donations in her honor, may be made to Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital.
