OBITUARY
 
Mitchell Scott "Mike" McPherson

McPherson, Mitchell Scott "Mike", 84 passed away on January 23, 2014 in his Irving home after a lengthy illness with his family by his side. He was born on February 27, 1929 in Grand Prairie, Texas to Samuel Hughes McPherson and Jessie Beatrice (Swift) McPherson. Mike was a 1947 graduate of R. L. Turner High School, a veteran of the US Army serving in the Korean Conflict. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Silver Star. Mike has been a resident of Irving since 1952, was a construction sales manager for A. P. Green Refractories Company for 30 years retiring in 1987. He loved to garden, yard work, working with tools and gospel music in his later years. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Michael Scott McPherson and grandson Dillon Keefe McPherson He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Nell McPherson of Irving; son Patrick O'Brien McPherson and his wife Jennifer of Paonia, Colorado; daughter-in-law Karran Kay McPherson of Houston, Texas; grandson Casey Brice McPherson and wife McCall of Austin , Texas; great granddaughter Weston Grace McPherson of Austin; two sisters, Ruby Patricia Boyd of Dallas, Texas; Gloria Jean Bray and her husband Franklin of Gun Barrel City, Texas; brother Dallas McPherson and his wife Nelda of Irving; Sister-in-law , Moya Marie McPherson of Irving; sister-in-law, Thelma McPherson of Pinole, California; sister-in-law Doris Wages of Malakoff, Texas, brother-in-law Arthur David Cothren of Irving. He also had many very special nieces and nephews along with great nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff, nurses and aids from Interim Healthcare Hospice for their care and professionalism while caring for our loved one. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , (Local office) 4324 Beltline Road Suite C 206, Irving, Texas 75038 or the USO Dallas/Fort Worth, P O Box 613306, DFW Airport, Texas 75261. A memorial service with reception following, will be held on Monday, January 27, 2014 at 10:00AM at Restland Coppell Chapel.
