OBITUARY

Last Rites Held for James Miller, Father Of Mrs. George Hughes

Funeral services were held in the First Baptist Church Sunday afternoon for James Miller, aged pioneer who passed away Saturday night following a prolonged illness.
Rev. D. H. Bonner, pastor of the local First Baptist church, officiated and burial was in Cemetery Hill, C. E. Colton, former pastor, assisted.
Born December 10, 1859 in Carrollton, Ill., Mr. Miller came to Texas at the age of 21 with his parents. He was married to Miss Ella Frances Hulsey, June 17, 1880. Three children were born to them, two having died in infancy.
He was convicted and joined the Baptist Church in 1880 which met then in a cabin near where the Willow Springs Church now stands. He assisted in organizing the Willow Springs Church and organized in first Sunday School. He was ordained a Baptist deacon about 1890.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Carrollton and an active deacon until his health failed him a few years ago. He was a member of the Woodmen of the World.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. George Hughes, one sister, Mrs. Harrison Nix and a granddaughter, Ruth Hughes.
