Arthur F. Myers Dies at Age 79
Arthur F. Myers, 79, of 3208 Cole, grandson of the first ordained Baptist minister in Dallas County, died Wednesday in a Dallas hospital after a long illness.
Mr. Myers was a native and life-long resident of Dallas County.
In his earlier years he had operated a cafe in Carrollton. He was retired, however, at the time of his death.
Mr. Myers' great-grandfather was David Myers, a member of the Peters Colony which came to Texas in 1845, and who was credited with helping organize the first Baptist churches in Dallas County. The Rev. J. M. Myers, first ordained Baptist minister in the county was his grandfather.
Survivors are four sisters, Mrs. Florence Barnwell of Rome, Ga., Mrs. Bess Mathis of Palo Pinto, Palo Pinto County, Mrs. A. B. Culberson of Fort Worth and Mrs. R. P. Thaxton of Burkburnett, Wichita County.
Funeral arrangements were pending late Wednesday at the Rhoton Funeral Home in Carrollton.
