OBITUARY

Obituary of Morris Partain

Morris Dan Partain, 81, of Cooper passed away peacefully on Wednesday November 11, 2015 in Sulphur Springs, Texas due to complications of Parkinson’s disease.

Morris was born July 20, 1934 in Chalk Mountain, Texas, the second of three children to Charles Forris Partain and Una Jean (Walker) Partain. Morris spent most of his formative years growing up in Carrollton, Texas. After graduation from Carrollton High School, Morris attended Texas A&M University where he graduated in 1957 with a Bachelor of Science degree. While at A&M, he was a proud member of both the Aggie Marching Band and the Corps of Cadets. Upon graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Army achieving the rank of 2nd Lieutenant before being honorably discharged.

Morris’ business interests were varied, beginning with a dairy farm in Carrollton, Texas where he met the love of his life, Laura Sue Partain. They married in 1966, eventually settling in Delta County where they bought a farm and had their only child, Chris Partain, in 1970. Morris farmed and ranched for a number of years before gravitating to the real estate and homebuilding business where he enjoyed much success marketing local farms and ranches, designing and building residential properties and developing a residential subdivision in the city.

In addition to his professional career, Morris was also very civic minded as he participated in or spearheaded numerous projects geared toward the improvement of the City of Cooper and Delta County, for which he had lofty goals and deep sense of responsibility. His efforts, along with those of others, continue to improve the quality of life in the community today. He was equally involved in the First United Methodist Church of Cooper, where he had a special place in his heart for both the Sunday School class that he taught for many, many years as well as the establishment of an annual Thanksgiving meal to feed those in need.

Morris was predeceased by his father, Charles Forris Partain; mother Una Jean Partain and brother, Jackie Gene Partain. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sue Partian of Cooper, son Chris Partian, daughter-in-law Elizabeth Partain and granddaughters Claire, Ashlyn and Kailyn Partian, all of Fairfield, Texas. He also survived by one sister, Sandra Wynon Samuelson of Waterfield, Maine, as well as numerous other relatives including cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws.

Visitation will be held at the Delta Funeral Home in Cooper on Friday, November 13th, from 6-8 pm. The funeral will be on Saturday, November 14th, 1 pm at the First United Methodist Church of Cooper with Reverends Robert Richardson and Steve Cook officiating. Burial to follow immediately thereafter at Oaklawn Cemetery.
