There will be no formal visitation. Inurnment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. David passed away on Friday, September 6, 2013 at Rock Creek Rehabilitation Center. He was 72 years young. David was born July 24, 1941 in Seminole, Oklahoma to Otis E. Rowell and Fern E. Rowell. He graduated from R. L. Turner High School
[Carrollton High] in Carrollton, Texas in 1960. He married Joan Lairson in Oklahoma in 1962. She preceded him in death in 2003. David had a passion and devotion for his Lord, his family, and his friends. He led by example and influenced many with his wisdom and love. During his last days he was rejuvenated by a constant flow of family and friends, old and new. One never had to ask directions to David’s room at Rock Creek, you just listened and followed the laughter. He loved the camaraderie of games, especially Trivial Pursuits. We believe it was because he knew all the answers! He was an avid golfer inspired by his days of working with his brother Michael at the Columbian Club of Dallas and later as a caddy for golfers such as Lee Trevino. We could write a book of David Rowell catch phrases, i.e. “born tired and never got rested”, “mighty deep subject for a shallow mind”, and in answer to “what are you up too?” the famous “bout a buck ninety five!” He was worth so much more to us!! Even with inflation. Up until 1980, David lived in Lexington, Oklahoma where with his wife Joan, he owned and operated Oklahoma Hermetics for a time and then was employed by Westinghouse A. C. In 1980 he relocated to Sulphur Springs, Texas to work for a family owned business, Jon’s Custom Cabinets. In 1996 he combined his lifelong passion for aviation and became a Master Craftsman in fabricating V.I.P. aircraft interiors. David is survived by three children, son, Russell Allen Rowell of Erie, Colorado and daughters, Shelly Diane of Lexington, Oklahoma and Shannon Gayle of Norman, Oklahoma, eight grandchildren, Jeff Craig Chilvers, Harlo Grace Rowell, Preslee Breidyn Rowell, Zach Pete Peterson, Courtney Nicole Peterson, Autumn Sky Plumley, River McCullough, Jayden Jarrell; two great-grandchildren, Alex and Paige Chilvers. David is the oldest of six siblings and is survived by four brothers, Michael Rowell and wife Donna, Anthony Rowell, Jon Rowell and wife Sandy, Mansel Rowell and one sister Beverly Morgan and husband Phil. He was preceded in death by his parents. Family request in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org The family appreciates the love and care he received from Rock Creek Health and Rehab and Legacy Hospice. Arrangements are under the direction of West Oaks Funeral Home. www.westoaksfuneralhome.com
