OBITUARY

Bobby Joe Thompson
February 24, 1938 - December 25, 2021

Bobby Joe Thompson, born in Dallas, TX on February 24, 1938, loyal husband and best friend to Jane Ann Thompson for 62 years, son of George Edward Thompson and Anna Belle Thompson, loving brother to Gene Thompson, devoted father to Caryn, Dana, and Perri.

Bob’s lifelong faith in Jesus marked every area of his life. He married his love, Jane Thompson, on October 16th, 1959 and they celebrated 62 wonderful years together. He began his career at Dallas Power and Light before transitioning to running and operating Moore Lumber Company where he lived out his passion for entrepreneurship and fellowship. After many wonderful years of spearheading and leading the company, he retired and quickly took on God’s new call on his and Jane’s life in global missions through International Commission, a mission’s organization that takes laymen on short term mission trips around the world.

In his life, Bob made sure his family and grandchildren were a priority. He and Jane were present in attendance at every football game, performance, or event ensuring that each of their grandchildren felt supported by Pawpaw and Gmom. Bob and Jane also had a deep passion for mission work. In their retirement, they went on mission trips to Estonia, East Africa, West Africa, Spain, Ireland, and Ecuador to touch unreached people groups across the world with the hope of Christ. Even after they stopped traveling for missions, Bob was a fierce prayer warrior in his local mission front at The Village Church. Bob was a devoted follower of Christ and served as a deacon, teacher and chaired the missions committee at Lakeland Baptist Church for many years.
