Mrs. Harriett Warner Celebrates Birthday

A large number of relatives and friends gathered at the home of Mrs. Harriette Warner last Monday to indulge in a splendig social day, and partake of a most wholesomely prepared dinner, which celebrated the day that brought the delightful hostess through the three score and twelve years.
Her three children and all of her grand children were present W. F. Hofmann, W. S. McRight, Mrs. Nellie Mueller, Mrs. D. C. Perry, J. H. Miller and wife, Sammie Miller and wife, E. L. Bowling and family, W. E. Anderson and family and Rev. L. C. Howell were present. Bro. Howell's birthday was the day previous (he being the same age as Hon. Pat Neff) and Mrs J. H. Miller birthday was the day following this eventful day she being seventy-six years of age, and at three cornered birthday dinner was served.
The day was spent in music, meals, talks, swimming (by three little boys, Elden, Orville and Thomas Warner) and wandering over the grove, led by Mrs. W. F. Hofman, who usually makes this occasion recall her childhood days. The writer was present at Mrs. Warner's birthday last year and no changes were observed.  Mrs. Warner is yet as young. Congratulations, well wishes and presents were extended. Every one enjoyed the day to the fullest extent and hope to meet with Mrs. Warner again next year.

OBITUARY

Mrs. Harriet M. Warner

On the morning of June 9th the sad news was sent over telephones that Mrs. Harriet Warner has passed away. She had been in poor health for some time but an accident hastened her death.
Following a fall she was carried to the hospital, but owing to her advanced age and physical condition, very little could be done and at her own request was brought back to the old home to spend her last days where many years ago she had gone as a bride.
Mrs. Warner was born August 30, 1848, near Carrollton. She was the third child of Mr. and Mrs. Alex W. Perry who were charter members of Union Baptist church. At the age of twenty-one she was married to Thomas Warner. Six Children were born to them. Mr. Warner and four of the children, three daughters and a son, have passed through the gates into the city whose builder and maker is God. Only two daughters survive. They are Mrs. W. S. McRight and Mrs. W. F. Hofmann; and seven grandchildren all of Carrollton.
The funeral services were held at Union Baptist church Sunday afternoon. Rev. G. C. Garrison of Dallas, and old friend, conducted the service with the assistance of her pastor, Rev. C. B. Stanley, and Rev. D. A. Ross pastor of the Methodist church.
Aunt Harriet was ready and anxious to go. She was a devout Christian. She was converted early in life, and a member of Union Baptist church for sixty-five years.
She was always interested in her church and a liberal giver to the good cause. Her disposition was cheerful, her life beautiful. She lived in almost constant communion with her Lord. Morning, noon and evening she daily talked with God, and to her friends her best loved theme was the goodness of God. Those with whom she came in contact were moved by her Christlike spirit. Her influence will follow her. She was a godly mother and a kin and lovable grandmother, Her children and grandchildren will ever remember her wise counsel and sacred thoughts instilled in their hearts by her. Truly they will rise up and call her blessed.
Sweet and treasured are the moments of conversation we have had with Aunt Harriet concerning this life and the life beyond. How often have we heard her say, "I wish Jesus would come today."
Althrough the early morning hours of this sad day were dark and threatening with heavy clouds the sunlight broke thru them, and it seemed the God was smiling as her body was lowered in the grave beside that of her husband who eighteen years ago preceded her going.
There we left her with sorrowing but hopeful hearts, knowing it is well with her, let it be well with us.  We shall see her again in that land that eye hath not seen nor ear heard of the glories that awaits the children of God. To the children, grandchildren and other  relatives remember to "Cast thy burden upon the Lord and he will sustain thee. He will not suffer the righteous to be moved. We shall see her again.
Mrs. Earl Skiles
