Fireman fighting fire electrocuted

FARMERS BRANCH - A 23-year-old Addison fireman was shocked fatally Tuesday morning by a fallen power line while fighting a grass fire in Farmers Branch.
Stephen Webb, of 3925 Brookhaven Club Drive, was pronounced dead at Parkland Hospital despite efforts to revive him with artificial respiration.
C. J. Webster, Addison city administrator, said Webb, who had been with the Addison fire department since May, and three other firemen responded about 11 a.m. to a call about a grass fire on Midway Road.
Although the fire on Midway at Proton, turned out to be in Farmers Branch, the Addison men began fighting it until the Farmers Branch firemen could arrive.
Webster said the downed power line, which apparently caused the fire, was in 8 to 10 foot grass when Webb stepped on it.
Funeral services were pending Tuesday at Rhoton, Weiland-Merritt Funeral Home in Carrollton
