OBITUARY

Jerry Welch (1948 - 2013)

Jerry Welch passed away at his home in Lodi and went to be with the Lord on December 9, 2013 at the age of 65. He was born in Oklahoma to Tim and Betty Welch on January 20, 1948.
Jerry graduated from RL Turner High School, and attended Eastfield Jr. College where he was honored with the very first award for honor roll achievement. He continued his education at the University of North Texas where he received his Bachelors degree in Business Management. He then enlisted in the US Navy, serving for 4 years and three tours of duty in Vietnam. He spent one year on a Navy Vessel, one year in telecommunications and one year on a helicopter evacuating wounded Soldiers and Marines.
Upon his return he began working for a trucking company where he worked his way up to the position of the sole manager and eventually head of operations.
He loved collecting bronze eagles, miniature and antique toys, and very much enjoyed playing with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed going anywhere where there was water, playing tennis, hiking, and playing scrabble. He was a devoted and active member of his church serving on the board of directors and was always willing to help anyone no matter how much pain he was feeling and always had a smile or his contagious laugh for everyone. He loved the Lord with all of his heart and soul.
Jerry met Nancy at a dinner party where upon leaving he told the host he was going to marry her. Their life was full of ups and downs but the Lord strengthened them with an even closer bond to weather all of those challenges. They liked to go antiquing, travelling, doing yard work together, and playing games and spending time with family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Nancy Welch of Lodi; Children: Stacey Marie Bodie (Brooks) of Vista, Victoria Anderson of Lodi, Jay Landon Welch of TX, Matthew Ryan Robertson of Boise, ID; grandchildren: Jessica Krane of Concord, Caitlyn Salinas of Washington, Grace Juliana Bodie of Vista, and great grandson Michah Matthew Krane. Also surviving are his brother Bruce Crowley of Louisiana and a sister Sandra Sheets of Oklahoma.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents.
A funeral celebration will take place at 2 pm on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at Century Assembly, 550 W. Century Blvd Lodi, CA.
Jerry sponsored the paralyzed Veterans of America, and to honor his memory donations are preferred to flowers and may be made to the Paralyzed Veterans of America Mill Brook Rd, Wilton, NH 03086.
