OBITUARY

Cathy F. Wichman

Cathy F. Wichman passed away on Monday, September 10, 2012, from cancer. She was willing to take on the challenge of fighting the disease and for over two years she endured countless treatments and hospitalizations. She exhibited incredible courage, perseverance and tenacity, while never giving up hope for recovery.

Cathy was born, the middle of 3 children, in Dallas and grew up in the area; she graduated from R.L. Turner High School in 1973. Over the years she worked for many companies and at the time of her death, had been employed by Abbott Laboratories for 28 years. She was Administrative Assistant in the IT Dept and leaves behind many friends there.

Her marriage to Jeff Wichman was her greatest joy and they were married for 31 years, residing in Grapevine. During her illness, he was her constant companion and caregiver, never leaving her side. He became her nurse, driver, housekeeper, cook as well as many other roles.

Cathy was a dedicated Texas Ranger fan, avidly rooting for the team and various players. Last year, she got to go to Ranger Stadium to see them play. She loved to have fun, whether it be on Florida's beaches, watching NASCAR races, going to Disneyland or simply hanging out in the yard with her neighbors. She and Jeff resided in the same home for over 18 years and knew everyone in the neighborhood. They participated in Neighborhood Breakfasts, pool parties, birthday celebrations, etc. Cathy's favorite holiday was Halloween and she loved to dress up and see the children. Animals and children gravitated toward her calm nature. She had a remarkably dry wit and calm nature.

In life, Cathy lived on her own terms, not concerning herself with outward appearances. She was known for her generosity. For many years, she financially supported a young man in Brazil, oversaw United Way campaign drives and participated in many charitable organizations. Due to adversity experienced as a child, she understood the value of support.

Cathy was loved and will be remembered by her husband, Jeff; sister and spouse, Tricia and Sam Altimore; nephew, Matt Long; niece Rachel Gathright; mother-in-law, Gene Wichman; sister-in-law, Bobbi Olin and a host of other family and friends. She is preceded in death by parents, Lee and Jane Milam and brother, Robert Milam.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the many physicians, nurses and healthcare professionals who cared for her during her illness. In particular, we would like to thank Dr. Srilatha B. Hosur with Metroplex Cancer Specialists for both her compassion and expertise.

In order to continue fighting this disease, the family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Cathy's name to: www.cancer.org.
