Will Observe 123d Birthday
FARMERS BRANCH, Texas - A 3-day celebration of the 123d anniversary of
the oldest community in Dallas will begin at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
A Jaycee-sponsored style show in the Farmers Branch Shopping Center at that
time will be followed by Indian dances, staged by Boy Scouts and sponsored
by the Otis Engineering Co.
Farmers Branch traces its history back to the original Peters Colony
settlement on the present municipal site.
Friday's program highlight will be the first district football game played
at R. L. Turner Stadium, pitting the Farmers Branch-Carrollton Lions against
the Denison Yellow Jackets. A teen-age dance will follow at the Farmers
Branch Shopping Center.
The annual Pioneer Days parade will move at 2 p.m. under direction of the
Junior Chamber of Commerce.
For Saturday the Lions Club is preparing 1,000 barbecued chickens to be
offered at $1 a plate at noon and in the evening.
The Saturday evening schedule calls for a beauty contest sponsored by
Valwood Center merchants, a square dance in Valwood, the judging of beards,
and a hog-calling contest.
