OBITUARY

Suanne Aday
11-22-1943 - 3-16-2021

Suanne Shelton Aday passed away peacefully, holding her son's hand, on the morning of March 16, 2021, in Washington, D.C. at the age of 77 following a stroke two weeks earlier. Born and raised in the Dallas, Texas area, Suanne attended Carrollton High School, where she was a cheerleader and played "hardball," as she liked to remember. She graduated from North Texas State University, where she majored in theater and met her first husband, James Aday, and her lifelong best friend, Larry McKinney, who died at the end of February. In 1969, she and James took their 2-year-old son, Sean, and moved to Eugene, Oregon, a city and state she would fall in love with and consider her true home for the rest of her life. Suanne was a compassionate and exceptional teacher of pre-K Montessori students in Eugene at Far Horizons, Arrowhead, and Second Renaissance Montessori schools, and eventually opened her own school, Mountain View Montessori. Late in life she met, befriended, and fell in love with Richard "Sam" Sansom, with whom she lived for the last 12 years of his life. After he passed in 2013, she moved to Washington D.C. to be close to her son and his family, including her two grandchildren, Jamie and Paulina, whom she loved dearly. She is remembered by her family and friends as a funny, warm-hearted, feisty force of nature who loved the Oregon Cascades and Coast, Bob Dylan, the N.Y. Yankees, and classic movies. She was a beloved daughter to Howell Shelton and Livia Bumpus, sister to Livia Jane and Sarah, aunt, grandmother, and mother, and will be missed very much. She is survived by her son, daughter-in-law, grandchildren, and two sisters and their children and grandchildren. Services will be private, but if one is so inclined, a donation to an animal rescue organization would be most appropriate.

Published in Eugene Register-Guard from Mar. 29 to Apr. 4, 2021.
