Evans John Adkins, III, USNavy Ret
1949 - 2021

Smithville - Evans John Adkins, III, age 71 of Smithville, Texas passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at his residence in Smithville, Texas. Evans was born November 28, 1949 in Dallas, Texas to Evans J. Adkins, Jr. and Frankye (Jolly) Adkins. He was 1969 graduate of R.L. Turner High School in Carrollton, Texas. He graduated from West Texas State University in Canyon with a bachelor's degree in Biology. Evans was a career military man, serving 27 years in the US. Navy and retiring at the rank of Master Chief. He served in Vietnam and Iraq and was a proud member of the Navy Seabees. He enjoyed reading about history. He was also an avid wine collector and enjoyed taking care of his cattle. He has lived in Smithville for 9 years after living several years in Amarillo, Texas.
Funeral services for Evans J. Adkins, III will be held at 2:00pm, April 10, 2021 at Leatherwood Memorial Chapels in Brady with Reverend Regina Maas officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Live Oak Cemetery in Brady. Friends may view and/or sign Evans J. Adkins, III online memorial guest book at www.leatherwoodmemorialchapels.com. Everyone is requested to wear face masks coverings during all services.
Evans is survived by his daughter Justin Ann Adkins-Taylor and husband Robert of Smithville, Texas and 4 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
