OBITUARY
Lawrence
Edward "Ed" Allen
May 17, 1948 - November 19, 2020
Lawrence Edward ‘Ed’ Allen passed from this life on
November 19, 2020, after a valiant battle with heart and
other related health issues.
Ed was born on May 17, 1948, to Rev. J.B. Allen and his
wife Minnie Mae Turner Allen in Hugo, Oklahoma. Ed spent
his younger years living around Oklahoma in Boswell,
Cushing, Hominy, Byers and Ardmore as his father was
pastoring and moving churches frequently. In 1964 the
Allen family moved to Farmers Branch, Texas, and the
area became Ed’s lifelong home.
After high school, Ed began working in the printing
business where he spent the majority of his business
career with companies like Roger Snap, Texas Stock Tab
and finally in his own print shop, 177 Press, that he
ran in partnership with his son, Jason.
Ed became a father in 1969 when Jason was born and later
adopted another son, Phil. He was a very active father
supporting both Jason and Phil in their various little
league activities. In July of 1988, he married Mary Ann
Hise and acquired 3 more sons and a daughter. He enjoyed
watching all the children and grandchildren in their
sports activities his entire life.
As a young man, Ed was involved in dirt track racing
which he continued to enjoy as a spectator throughout
his life. In 1969, Ed discovered the sport of ice hockey
and began attending Dallas Black Hawk games. This became
a lifelong passion of his. He enjoyed watching the Hawks
and eventually worked in the press box at games until
1982 when Dallas lost its minor league hockey team. In
the fall of 1992, minor league hockey returned to Dallas
in the form of the Dallas Freeze and Ed happily accepted
a position as the Freeze statistician which he enjoyed
until 1995 when minor league hockey left Dallas again.
The past few years, Ed has supported the Allen Americans
along with his brother who shares his love for the game.
Upon retiring, Ed became interested in building and
woodwork. He made many rustic projects for family and
friends, including bird houses, small tables and signs.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. J.B. Allen
and Minnie Mae Turner Allen as well as first wife, Ida
Mae Allen.
Ed is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Allen, brother
