OBITUARY ANDERSON, JOE M. , Was born
May 21, 1942 in Clifton, Texas and passed away June 26, 2006 in Garland, Texas.
He graduated from Garland High School in 1960 and earned a Bachelor of Business
Administration from Baylor University in 1965. He received a direct commission
from the U.S. Army obtaining the rank of Captain and serving for three years
with one tour of duty in Vietnam. He was a longtime employee of Southwestern
Bell and owned a franchise of Snap-On Tools. He completed his career at
Foretravel of Texas, who manufactured luxury motor homes. He was also a member
of the First Baptist Church of Garland. Joe had a great love of classic cars.
His pride and joy was an India Ivory and Canyon Coral 1957 2-door Bel Air
hardtop which won Most Original Car in the U.S. at the National Chevy
Convention. He was in his element buying and selling cars. Joe was a consummate
negotiator who could always get a better deal. We will always expect to see him
in the driveway with his cars or on the deck in his chair. He is the loving
husband of forty-four years of Melinda Dale Sanders Anderson; beloved father of
Melinda Michelle Anderson Standefer and her husband Glenn; dear son of Lillie
Mae Driver Anderson and the late Marion Calvin Anderson; brother of Mary Lou
Anderson Green and her husband Cecil; uncle of Dina Green Dixon, and David Green
and his wife Cindy. Friends may call Friday evening, June 30, 2006, in the
library of First Baptist Church, 801 West Avenue D, Garland, where the family
will be present from six until eight o'clock and are invited to attend services
Saturday afternoon, July 1, 2006, in the sanctuary of the church at two o'clock.
Reverend Jack Schmid will preside. Concluding service will be in the McRight
family plot in the Perry Cemetery
at Carrollton , Texas. The honorary bearers will be Milton Brown, Fred Carrouth,
Cecil Hargrove, Wayne Meadlin, Gary Proffitt, Jay Shannon, and Daniel Shaw.
Flowers will be received at the church Saturday afternoon after 12:30 o'clock.
