OBITUARY GEORGE ELLIS BAKER
VALPARAISO, IN
George Ellis Baker, age 60, of Valparaiso, who spent 28 years in the Navy,
passed away Saturday, October 11, 2008 at the VNA Horton Hospice Center in
Valparaiso.
He was born December 27, 1947 in Dallas, TX to Willie and Nancy (Norris) Baker.
On March 29, 1975, he married Anne Marie LaForce who survives. Also surviving
are his sons: Morgen Elliot LaForce Baker of Forest Park, IL and Mitchell Ellis
LaForce Baker of Valparaiso. Surviving him also is his brother, Thomas Earl
Baker of Arlington, Texas; his sister, Elizabeth Ann Baker-Brewer of Roxton, TX;
one niece; and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
George was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Valparaiso, the Kiwanis,
the Valparaiso Chamber of Commerce and was a retired U.S. Naval Lieutenant. He
has taught classes at Keller DeVry University, the former Sawyer College and
most recently was teaching at Purdue Univeristy North Central. He was also a
financial supervisor for Wadell and Reed in Orland Park, IL.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 14, 2008 from 4:00-8:00 PM at the
Bartholomew Funeral Home in Valparaiso. Private family funeral services will
take place on Wednesday. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
The family has requested in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the Katherine
Pokorny Scholarship Fund, c/o Frank Pokorny, 634 Winding Creek Path, Valparaiso,
IN 46385.
