OBITUARY Girl, 14,
Killed Crossing Highway
A 14-year old DeWitt Perry Junior High School student was struck and
killed by a car Saturday night as she attempted to cross Interstate 35E near the
Ramada Inn in Farmers Branch.
Dead on arrival at Parkland Hospital in Dallas was Vicky Ann Barganier, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Barganier of 1803 Glengery St in Carrollton. She attended
the 8th grade at DeWitt Perry.
The driver of the car, Paul Garica, 30, of Garland told police he did not see
the girl until his car had struck her. She was wearing a dark blue coat
and blue jeans at the time of the accident.
According to a report by Officer L. C.
Tribble of the Farmers Branch police, the girl was with several other
teenagers crossing the highway from west to east about 9:30 p.m. and she was
struck in the right northbound lane by Garcia's car.
She was knocked 141 feet by the impact Garcia told police he was driving about
45 miles per our at the time of the accident.
The girl was taken to Parkland by the Farmers Branch Fire Department ambulance
and was pronounced dead shortly after 10 p.m.
With her at the time of the accident, police reported were Sonnie Snider of 1441
Valley Hi Circle in Farmers Branch; Cynthia Colvin: 1938 Village Glenn, Dallas;
and Carl Dungan, 2730 Fyke Road. Apt 133, Farmers Branch. There was no
information on where the teenagers were headed when the accident occurred.
No charges have been placed against Garcia.
The fatality is the second of the year in Farmers Branch and also the second in
eight days. Both occurred within a five hundred feet of each other on Interstate
35E. On Feb. 16, Porter W. Henderson, of Denton, a professor of economics at
North Texas State University, was killed within his van struck a front-loader
tractor being used for construction work on the highway.
Surviving Vickey are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Barganier; brothers,
Wathan Lamar and Robert Lloyd, sister, Debra Lynn, grandfather, James Barganier
of River Falls. Alabama, grandmothers, Mrs. Daisy Lee Barganier of Winter Haven,
Fla. and Mrs. George Hanna of Pensacola, Fla.
Services were held at 11 a.m. today at Rhoton-Weiland-Merritt. Burial was at
Hilltop
Memorial Park in Carrollton
