OBITUARY Beckman, Amy M.
Beckman, Amy Marie. Amy passed away Sunday, August 31st at home. She was born
December 26, 1959 in Cleveland, Ohio to John and Rosemary Beckman. Raised in
Dallas, Amy graduated from W. T. White High School before her lifelong love of
art led her at age 33 to pursue a degree in studio art from the Meadows School
of the Arts at SMU. Upon graduating, she honed her passion for ceramics through
an internship with Totten Tile Works in Winlock, Washington, where she remained
with the company for seven years. She returned to Dallas in 2004 where she
continued her association with SMU, teaching occasionally and maintaining her
passion and boundless inspiration for the art form she cherished. Amy's second
passion, books, also led her to a career at Half-Price Books. Although brief,
she spoke with heartfelt gratitude of her position and the people she grew to
love. She was a fiercely loyal daughter, sister and friend. Open and direct in
her communications, few were left wondering where they stood with her. She loved
animals, resale shops and sunny days at White Rock Lake but her perfect day
would be spent laughing and making pottery with her niece and nephews whom she
adored. Amy believed in God and she led a spiritual life of profound courage,
rigorous honesty and grace. She will be missed for a lifetime. Amy was preceded
in death by her father John C. Beckman of Dallas. She is survived by her mother
Rosemary Beckman of Dallas, brothers John Beckman of Garland and Tom Beckman of
Dallas, sister Sue Reed and husband Dan Reed of Garland, nephews Charlie Reed of
Arlington and Joe Reed of College Station, Texas and niece Katie Reed of State
College, Penn. A service will be held at North Dallas Funeral Home, on the
morning of Saturday, September 6, 2008 at eleven thirty. North Dallas Funeral
