September 3, 1953 - March 18, 2022

The City of Farmers Branch lost a devoted leader last week. Former City Councilman Mike Bomgardner passed away Friday, after a long and valiant battle with cancer.
He served as a Council member from 2015 to 2021. He was a local businessman and owner of Innovative Sales Group. Before that, he was buyer for Sanger Harris. In college, Bomgardner played fullback and served as a football team Captain at Duke University.
He is survived by three adult children. He often said his greatest joy was spoiling his grandchildren. His family thanks all those who offered support during his illness.
A memorial service has been scheduled this Sunday, March 27 at 2 p.m. at Valley View Christian Church with a reception to follow. The public is invited.

Mike Bomgardner is a former Yale football player. A four sport letterman in high school, Mike's Haddon Heights, New Jersey team won two state championships and he received multiple scholarship offers from schools such as Penn State, Notre Dame and Syracuse.

Today, Mike is in a different kind of battle away from the football field as he was diagnosed with colon cancer in April of 2016. Mike went through multiple rounds of cancer but in January 2019, he discover that his cancer had returned and given a terminal diagnosis.

On March 22, 2020, Bomgardner's trials continued as he was diagnosed with Covid-19 and admitted to the hospital for multiple days.

On this episode of the podcast, we talk to Mike Bomgardner about his football journey but even more, how the Lord has worked through him during his battle with the cancer, contracting coronavirus, sharing his story and why he continues to trust in Jesus during all of this.   (Sports Spectrum Podcast)
