Mike
Bomgardner
September 3, 1953 - March 18, 2022
The City of Farmers Branch lost a devoted leader last week. Former City
Councilman Mike Bomgardner passed away Friday, after a long and valiant
battle with cancer.
He served as a Council member from 2015 to 2021. He was a local
businessman and owner of Innovative Sales Group. Before that, he was
buyer for Sanger Harris. In college, Bomgardner played fullback and
served as a football team Captain at Duke University.
He is survived by three adult children. He often said his greatest joy
was spoiling his grandchildren. His family thanks all those who offered
support during his illness.
A memorial service has been scheduled this Sunday, March 27 at 2 p.m. at
Valley View Christian Church with a reception to follow. The public is
invited. |
Mike Bomgardner is a former Yale football player. A four sport letterman in high
school, Mike's Haddon Heights, New Jersey team won two state championships and
he received multiple scholarship offers from schools such as Penn State, Notre
Dame and Syracuse.
During his time at Yale, Mike served as a co-captain in 1974 and was voted "Most
Inspirational Teammate" that same season.
Today, Mike is in a different kind of battle away from the football field as he
was diagnosed with colon cancer in April of 2016. Mike went through multiple
rounds of cancer but in January 2019, he discover that his cancer had returned
and given a terminal diagnosis.
On March 22, 2020, Bomgardner's trials continued as he was diagnosed with
Covid-19 and admitted to the hospital for multiple days.
On this episode of the podcast, we talk to Mike Bomgardner about his football
journey but even more, how the Lord has worked through him during his battle
with the cancer, contracting coronavirus, sharing his story and why he continues
