OBITUARY Rites held for
ex-Carrollton-Farmers Branch educator Charles Bowlin, 67

Services for Charles Wayne Bowlin, a retired educator in the Carrollton-Farmers
Branch school district, were held Saturday in Tenaha, in East Texas. Burial was
in Tennessee Community Cemetery in Tenaha.
Mr. Bowlin, 67, died Thursday at his home in Dallas.
During high school in Gladewater, Mr. Bowlin lettered in every sport offered but
tennis. In the early 1950s, he played football at Tyler Junior College and what
is now the University of North Texas in Denton.
After graduating, he served in the Army, then taught and coached at Carrollton
High School. He also taught and coached at the district's DeWitt Perry Junior
High School and Newman Smith High School, then was an administrator until his
retirement in 1989. He also officiated for many sports leagues.
"He touched the lives of many young people," said his wife, Cynthia Bowlin.
Other survivors include a son, Jeff Bowlin of Carrollton; a daughter, Amy Bowlin
of Carrollton; two brothers, Howard Bowlin of Gladewater and Kenneth Bowlin of
Gilmer; and two grandchildren.
A scholarship fund has been established in Mr. Bowlin's name. Donations may be
