Bridges Named All-American Billy Bridges, 22, of
Carrollton, offensive team guard of the University of Houston Cougars, has been
selected on All America teams this year. He is a former R. L. Turner High School
Star.
Bridges, 6' 2", weighing 235 and a senior at UH was selected by the American
Football Coaches Association on the 1969 Kodak All-America offense team, with
the following descriptive data:
One of a consistent group of standout interior linemen for Coach Bill Yeoman.
Bridges is the third Cougar named to the Kodak team in recent years. Excellent
as a pulling guard on end sweeps. "Terrific blocker and pass protector" says
Yeoman.
A youthful band of the nations leading collegiate football players representing
17 schools from all across the country Thursday were named to the 1969 Kodak
All-America Team.
Six schools have two players each on the squad while 11 others are represented
by one p0layer. There are no repeats from the 1968 team.
The 80th annual squad successor to the first All-America team chosen in 1889 by
Coach Walter Camp of Yale, appeared Saturday night on the ABC TV special,
"Kodak's All America Foot Ball Team", immediately following the Penn State -
North Carolina game. O. J. Simpson, a member of the 1968 Kodak team, and Chris
Schenkel were commentators for the program.
More than 2,000 members of the AFCA cast votes for the team, according to
William Murray, executive director. All 24 players will visit New York
City this weekend as guests of the Eastman Kodak Company, sponsors of the team
since 1960.

Halfbacks: Steve Owens, Oklahoma; Charlie Pittman, Penn State
Fullback: Warren Muir, South Carolina
Flanker: Carlos Alvater, Florida
