OBITUARY Services Held for Former F. B.
City Councilman
Funeral services were held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. for James Gilbert
Brodhead, former Farmers Branch City councilman and businessman who died Friday.
Mr. Brodhead served on the council in the Lawson Lewis Administration and later
moved to Houston for a short time where where he was in the housing development
business.
Upon returning from Houston, Mr. Brodhead entered into business at Farmers
Branch, and only recently was elected chairman of the Farmers Branch Citizens
for America organization, whose group held a number of lectures in the
"Communism vs. Americanism" series.
Born at Waxahachie, Texas, April 16, 1907, Mr. Brodhead died Jan. 11 after a
short illness. He attended Texas A&M College, was a member of the IOOF Lodge of
Plano, and moved to Farmers Branch in 1952 from Allen where he farmed a number
of years. He and his brother, John Brodhead, were owners and developers of
Valley View Estates in Farmers Branch.
Mr. Brodhead was active in local civic organizations and was a real estate
broker the past 10 years.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Reppie Brodhead; son, Lucian Mitchell Brodhead,
both of Farmers Branch; brother, John Brodhead, Plano, Texas.
Services were held in the Rhoton-Weiland-Merritt Chapel with the Rev. Jake
Shelly of Plano officiating. Burial was in Restland.
Pallbearers were: Sam Braden, W. Ray Thompson, George Myers, Pete Ford, Bill
Robbins, and Charles McLean
