OBITUARY

BROWN, FLOYD IRVING, 84, long time Dallas resident passed away Monday, February 13, 2006 at his home surrounded by his family. Born January 19, 1922 in Rock Island, Illinois, he was a stellar athlete and dedicated scholar. He joined the Navy and was LT. (J. G.) as an instrument flight instructor in Pensacola, Florida during World War II. He met his wife Helen in Atlanta, Georgia and fell in love at first sight. They were married six months later and enjoyed 62 years together. After leaving the military, Floyd attended Georgia Tech University and earned a degree in Electrical Engineering. His hard work was recognized by receiving the Bridge of Tau Beta Pi (Engineering) and an invitation to the Eta Kappa Nu (Scholatics) Honor Society. His Engineering career began after graduation with Square D Electric Company. His career continued to progress and led to ownership of his electrical contracting business, Electric Control and Switch in Carrollton, Texas. While working diligently, Floyd also found time to be active in the community. He served as a Boy Scout Leader, Member of the Carrollton Farmers Branch School Board, President of the Metrocrest Hospital Authority (RHD Memorial Hospital), Board Member of Northlake Community College, President and Member of the American Independent Electrical Contractors Association, Member of the Flood Control Board of Carrollton-Farmers Branch, Co-Founder/Elder of both the Donelson Presbyterian Church in Donelson, Tennessee and Ridgeview Presbyterian Church in Farmers Branch, Texas, and Member of the Metrocrest Rotary where he was a Paul Harris Fellow. Floyd was also an avid golfer and a long-time member of Brookhaven Country Club. Floyd had a very active life, but most enjoyed time spent with his family. He is survived by his wife Helen and two sons, Floyd I. "Skip" Brown Jr. and Scott F. Brown. In addition to his sons, he was deeply loved by his daughter-in-law, Becky Brown, and two granddaughters Ashley Brown Wunch along with her husband Justin Wunch and son Colin Wunch, and Lauren Brown. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2006 at 3:00 pm at St. Andrew United Methodist Church on W. Plano Parkway. Dr. Robert Hasley will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to help support research for arthritis at UT Southwestern Medical School P.O. Box 910888, Dallas, Texas 75391-0888 and/or VITAS Hospice Charitable Fund 100 S Biscayne Blvd, Suite 1500, Miami, Florida 33131.
