OBITUARY
Brown,
Josephine
March 19, 1923 - November 14, 2021
Josephine C. Brown went to be with Our Lord on Sunday, November 14, 2021
following a brief illness. Josephine (Jo), aged 98 years, was born on
March 19th, 1923 in Washington County, Kansas as the 3rd of eight
children to John and Rose Sedlacek.
Raised on a Kansas farm, Jo married “the love of my life”, Francis L.
Brown, on June 19, 1946. They were married for 53 years and together
reared 5 children. Following the death of Francis (1999), Jo met George
Peeples at church. The two married in 2002 and remained married until
his passing in 2016.
Jo’s children will attest she was a lifelong teacher. She first taught
in a one-room rural school, then various Catholic parochial schools in
Minnesota and Texas. She graduated from Texas Women’s University,
earning her Texas teaching certification. Jo retired from the
Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD following 16 years of dedicated service to
her community. She was very proud that all three of her granddaughters
are current teachers. “It skipped a generation”, she would laugh.
In retirement, Jo loved time with family and friends. She also enjoyed
travels to The Holy Lands, Rome, Europe, Hawaii and other destinations.
Until her age slowed her she was active as a docent for the Farmers
Branch Historical Park, a volunteer delivering meals to elderly shut-ins
and a member of the Catholic Daughters at her church. Jo loved The
Church, and she prayed the rosary daily.
Jo is survived by her children, son Michael F. Brown and wife Susan, son
Ronald G. Brown and wife Syble, daughter Carole J. Coffman, son Timothy
P. Brown and wife Debbie, and daughter Susan M. Reynolds and husband
Joe. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Three of her eight siblings are also living.
A viewing for immediate family will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 Wednesday
evening, November 17, 2021 at North Dallas Funeral Home. A Mass of
Christian Burial will be said on Thursday, November 18, 2021 beginning
at 10:00 AM at Mary Immaculate Catholic Church in Farmers Branch, Texas.
A private interment will follow at Calvary Hill. |
