OBITUARY D. C. Brant of Jacksboro,
formerly a resident of this place, passed away at his home there Monday, Jan 19,
aged 64 years and 26 days. High blood pressure and allied ailments caused death.
He is survived by wife and three children and several grandchildren and has
numerous relatives in this district, among whom are A. C. Fyke, to whom we are
indebted for the information hence given, George F. Myers, Harrison Nix, and the
F M. Good family, and others.
Mr. Brant was a well to do rancher and stockman of Jacksboro. He left this
district about 1880 or '81, but having many relatives here has been in touch
with our people and was well known here. The Carrollton Chronicle -

D.C. Brant, 63, died at his ranch home three miles northwest of town
Monday. Funeral conducted at the home by Rev. A.R. Bilberry, pastor of the First
Baptist church assisted by Rev. Garrett, pastor of the Methodist church. Burial
in Oakwood cemetery by the Masonic fraternity.
Mr. Brant was well known over Jack county as a prominent cattle man and ranch
operator and also as a pioneer of this section of the state. He was a native of
Denton county and came to Jack county in 1881. Survived: widow; 2 sons – Carl
and A.D., both of Jacksboro; daughter – Mrs. W.H. Portwood of Seymour; 5 sisters
– Mrs. R.B. Ashford, Mrs. J.T. Beard of Jacksboro; Mrs. Effie Gray of NM; Mrs.
W.W. Chancellor of Mineral Wells, Mrs. Sallie Moore of Corsicana; 2 brothers
