Mrs. Julia Nix Bryant

A large number of Carrollton and out of town friends and relatives attended the funeral service of Mrs. Julia Nix Bryant at Union Missionary Baptist Church last week.
The body rested at Carrollton in the home of her nephew, Will Nix, the night before burial. Her pastor, Rev. Smith of Greenville was delayed from joining Rev. George Good and Rev. W. E. Anderson on the rostrum in time to conduct the services.  Rev. Good's remarks were befitting the life of the deceased, he having known her from her childhood in Carrollton. The tributes from Rev. Smith after he arrived, covered Mrs. Bryant's fortitude, accomplishments and influences, undaunted by widowhood and a broken body for forty years.
Sister Bryant was born August 16, 1858, nearly 63 years ago. She joined the Union Baptist church at the age of 15. For the last thirty-five years she has been a member off Nevada Baptist church, and was one of the heaviest givers in building their new $48,000.00 building. However, Mr. Smith said the greater things she had accomplished was developing talents of children in her primary department beginning thirty years ago, some of whom are now teachers of music, organists, consecrated teachers and workers.
When she came cheerfully to the last her requests were that the services be held in old Union Baptist church, and that she be buried in the old cemetery at Farmers Branch at a spot she named.  (In digging the grave another grave was touched and the sight of ehr grave had to be moved a few inches).
Each of the active pall bearers were nephews: Kenneth Handley, Peter W. Handley, Rex Good, Clarence Good, Marion Good, Edgar Good, Gaye Moore. The surviving sisters are as follows: Mrs. Delia Good of Carrollton, Mrs. Minnie Moore, Farmers Branch, Mrs. Ida Handley, Garland, Mrs. Ethel Fisher, Dallas, Mrs. Myrtle Southerland, Winnewood, Ohio, and one brother, Harrison Nix.
Many came from out of town, including Mrs. Henry Clark of Oak Cliff, Mr. and Mrs. Ewing Buchanan, Brownlee Langley and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Furneaux of Dallas; Mesdames J. I. Williams, Claude Joyce, J. W. Weston, W. H. Roach, Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Crossman, R. W. Crossman, Mr. and Mrs. Will Handley all of Garland.
