California Lady Near Death's DoorMr. and Mrs. John Burgess
received work last week from their son, Clarence Burgess of Los Angeles,
California, that his wife was in a very serious condition and was hardly
expected to live. She had been in very precarious state of health for some
months, and had been in two hospitals under doctors care in hopes that she would
not have to be operated on.
Saturday, May 10, the doctor deemed it necessary to perform a Caesarian
operation, and a three and one half pound boy was born Mother and baby both
seemed to be doing well, but Sunday the little one passed away.
Mrs. Burgess has to be given water thru the arms and legs, by means of a
hypodermic needle, and this causes great suffering after entering the system.
She had been unable to take any nourishment from Saturday until Monday, and was
in a very weakened condition, being unable to recognize Charlie when he went to
the hospital to visit her Monday night. She has very high fever and is
kept covered with ice packs to alleviate her suffering. Three special nurses
stay with her each one being on duty for eight hours.
Mrs. Burgess is a Provo, Utah girl and Charlie and she have been happily married
over two years.
Mr. Burgess is well known to Carrollton people and they extend sympathy to him
in his sorrow.
