ARTICLE

Claud Julius Butler met his death Saturday by being struck by an automobile driven by Elmer Thompson, better known as "Chick" Thompson, of this place, who was on his way to Dallas. Chick says in regard to this accident that he "was on his way to Dallas to buy a birthday present for his wife. That he was driving about 45 miles per hour; that he saw the two boys playing beside the highway and moved over some in driving, but that the boy must have rolled out in front of the car because he did not see them again but heard the impact of something on the car. He went about 100 yards down the road, stopped and came back."
The boy and the little wagon in which he had been playing had been hit and hurled or dragged over seventy feet. The boy's skull was fractured and the left arm and leg broken.
The boy was the son of Deputy Sheriff J. E. Butler, who is a night patrolman and he was at home at the time. He immediately arrested Chick and carried him to Dallas and placed him in jail and charges were preferred against him. That evening Chick was released on a $7,500 bond.
