Juanita Louise Carter

Juanita Louise Carter, a resident of Lake Jackson, Texas and former resident of Angleton, Texas joined her almighty Savior on April 28, 2024 at the age of 84.
She was born on September 23, 1939 in Durant, Oklahoma to Dollie Edith Cross Standridge and Vernon Edward Standridge. Some of her fondest childhood memories were driving the tractor with her dad on the farm and her dog, Blackie. The family later moved to Dallas, Texas.
On November, 7, 1983, she married James Gerald Carter of Lake Jackson.
Louise graduated from Carrollton High School in Carrollton, Texas. She raised three children while obtaining an Associates Degree at Brazosport College. She made many long, foggy carpool commutes to The University of Texas-Galveston to complete her RN degree from the joint Brazosport-Galveston RN program in 1975. She worked as an RN and later as a Patient Representative at Angleton-Danbury Hospital for 21 years.
As a loving mother, she was active in her children's school events attending PTA, concerts, programs, sewing costumes for the music programs and serving as a substitute teacher. She was involved in Girl Scout and Boy Scout activities, including a stint as Girl Scout Cookie Chair and Den Mom. In the community, she was involved in Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and the Angleton Women's Center.
She cheered loud and long for her children's academic, sporting and band events. She continued the tradition with the grandchildren. There were many in town, out of town and across the state football, basketball, volleyball, softball, baseball, and soccer games, as well as, band performances and school events building strong memories with family and friends.
One of our cherished memories of our mother's abundant love is the gift of her love of reading. There were many trips to the Angleton Old Courthouse library. She encouraged us to check out as many books as we could carry and was willing to take us back multiple times a week during the summer. She shared her favorites from childhood to encourage us to expand our reading interests.
Science and animals were dear to her heart. She made trips to Surfside at low tide to explore the sea creatures that were hidden from sight to start salt water aquariums. The animals varied over the years from fish, snake, ducks, gerbils, ferret, cat, dogs and more. There were many an aquarium filled with cocoons and chrysalis to hatch and return to nature. Animal Guide books and encyclopedias abound for research.
She played on her high school basketball team. This love was shared too. She would set up her front yard to reflect that love. It was filled with neighborhood children playing basketball, volleyball, badminton, croquet, kickball, baseball and with a dumptruck's worth of sand dumped for play.
Just like her mother, she enjoyed gardening, cooking, and sewing. She ventured into quilting with her friend, Phyllis, and into scrapbooking with her friend, Delores. Photography was a favorite hobby with many photos of family, church spires, Hawaiian flora and fauna. She was passionate about genealogy, spending countless hours on research. She enjoyed many trips to Washington D.C. with Jim and the Bertrams.
She loved the grandchildren and enjoyed many trips to visit each one. She arranged for each out-of-town grandchild to stay for a week long adventure, as well as, traveling cross state and country to join special family and work events, sometimes at a moment's notice.
With her nursing skills, she was a compassionate care-giver to many relatives over the years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Bobbie Standridge, her grandparents Sarah Jane Bradshaw, Washington Cal (WC) Cross, William and Georgiana Dellinger Standrigde, daughter Lynn Francis Carter-Crump, and grandchild Jeremy Bennett.
Louise is survived by her loving husband, James Gerald Carter of Lake Jackson, daughter Kathleen Kay Bennett Bocock of Lake Jackson, son David Vernon (Kitty) Bennett, son Randall Brant (Elaine) Bennett, and seven grandchildren Megan Bocock, Cameron Bocock, Kristina Bennett, Harley Bennett, Brooke Bennett, Brant Bennett, Carter (Allie) Crump and two great-grandchildren Alexander Wayne Cabezudo and Carlie Lynn Crump.
A private graveside ceremony for family was held with the Reverend Dr. Alan Trafford officiating with interment at Angleton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Louise Carter's name to His Love at 310 Flag Lake Drive, Lake Jackson, 77566, Salvation Army at 1618 N. Avenue J, Freeport TX, 77542, Society of St. Stephens in care of First UMC, Lake Jackson, Tx or a charity of one's choice.
The family would like to express their appreciation for the care extended by Country Village in Angleton, Tx and Choice Hospice.
