Georgetta
Chambers
April 29, 1933 - July 24, 2019GEORGETTA'S OBITUARY
Georgetta Stolebarger Chambers left this earth sweetly in her sleep
early on July 24, 2019. A Celebration of Life will take place on
Saturday, August 17, at 2pm at First Baptist Church in Taylor.
Georgetta was born in Wichita, KS, on April 29, 1933, to Mildred and
George Stolebarger, and
was oldest of six children. The family eventually relocated to
Carrollton, TX and on September 8, 1951, she married her high school
sweetheart, Joe R. Chambers, who was by her side for 68 years. She
supported Joe through a lifetime of professional and ministerial work
and they retired together from Ponderosa Baptist Conference Center in
Colorado where he was director and she was camp secretary. They spent
the next 10 years touring the U.S., Nova Scotia, Great Britain,
Scotland, the Mediterranean, and Europe before relocating back to Taylor
to be close to family. Joe and Georgetta both had a love for travel
which took them just about everywhere they wanted to go (mostly in an
RV), but she had a passion for her family which always kept her coming
back to Texas, Oklahoma, and Colorado. One of her favorite sayings,
“Taylor is on the way to anywhere.”
Georgetta will be cherished and remembered as “Nanny,” a godly woman who
was always so loving and encouraging that the imperfections of others
never seemed to register with her. Quiet and content wherever she was,
she had a gift for putting others at ease while making everyone feel
unique and special. She loved to quilt and make greeting cards, but her
lifelong passion was “people.”
Georgetta is survived by her husband, Joe, daughters, JoLynne Williams
and Marilyne Rowland and their husbands, Charles and James of Taylor; a
son, Steven Chambers and his wife Stacy of Nowata, OK; a son-in-love,
Mark Chambers and his wife Beverly of Colorado Springs; sisters, Luella
Stolebarger of Dallas and Loralee Aulds of Tennessee; brother, John
Stolebarger of Florida; 8 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and a
host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Joe and Georgetta were faithful members of First Baptist Church of
Taylor and memorials may be made to the church at 2500 Mallard Street,
Taylor, Texas, 76574, or to Shepherd’s Heart Food Pantry at 121 East 2nd
