THREE MEN TAKE FARMERS BRANCH MAN OUT BEAT HIM

ALLEGED TO HAVE INFORMED OFFICERS MEN WERE MAKING LIQUOR

DALLAS, Aug. 7 (A.P.) - District Attorney William McGraw today instructed the Dallas county grand jury to make a complete investigation of the alleged flogging last night of Homer T. Chambers, 25, of Farmers Branch, who reported that a trio of men took him to the Trinity river bottoms, tied him to a tree and lashed him with a leather whip.
When taken before the grand jury today Chambers exhibited welts on his body. He failed to recognize any of the floggers he said.
Chambers said the trio picked him up in a large touring car while he was walking to town on the Lancaster pike Monday afternoon. Upon reaching the city limits, they refused to let him our, he said, and instead drive to a secluded spot in the river bottoms.
After tying him to a tree, one of the men accused him of informing officers that they were making liquor and struck him over the head with a tire tool. Chambers told the grand jury. They then took turns lashing him, he said.
Chambers declared that one of the men drew a knife and threatened to kill him, but that his companions dissuaded him. The three imbibed frequently from a gallon jug of liquor, Chambers said.
Finally, deciding that they had administered sufficient punishment, the men released Chambers with a warning that they would kill him if he told police of the incident.  He reached his home at 11 o'clock last night but did not call officers until today.
