Murray D. Coleman

Murray D. Coleman, 95, engineer and deacon


Murray D. Coleman, beloved husband and father, was born February 3, 1912, in Ashton, South Dakota, to George H. Coleman and Grace MacMillan Coleman, died January 27, 2008, in Dallas, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Maxine Moore and Lenna Coover. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Edna M. Coleman; one son, Gary D. Coleman; daughter, Joyce Wylie; and sister, Florence Julian.

He has been a member of Metrocrest Bible Church for many years and served as a deacon. He began his working career for the Iowa Public Service Company from 1930-37. After a year of training with Valparaiso, Indiana, Electronic Institute, he received a radio broadcasting license. Later he became a chief engineer of radio stations in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and Enid, Oklahoma, before moving to Dallas and working for Collins Radio Co. in 1956 until his retirement in 1977. He made many trips to the Mexican mission at Tamazunchale repairing their radio station’s equipment. Since retirement and before, he did much taping and recording for his church and Bible Prayer Fellowship. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts be made to: Bible Prayer Fellowship, P. O. Box 810718, Dallas, TX 75381. Or the church or charity of choice. Funeral services were held Thursday, January 31, at The Rhoton Funeral Home Chapel in Carrollton, Texas, with the Reverends Oliver W. Price and Gordon Schroeder officiating. Entombment was held in Hilltop Memorial Park, Carrollton. The Rhoton Funeral Home of Carrollton, Texas, was in charge of arrangements.
