Obituary
Richard Cook, 56, of 1801 Walnut Street, Carrollton, died early Sunday,
July 30, 1978, at St. Paul Hospital after a long illness.
He was born August 28, 1921 at the family home on Marsh Lane, the only child of
the late Richmond L. Cook and Vallie Fisher Cook, who survives him.
Richmond was a member of the 1939 graduating class of Carrollton High School and
received his B. A. in economics from North Texas State University in 1943.
During World War II he served in the U.S. Army from April 1943 until his
discharge in January 1946 with the rank of Staff Sergeant. After his return from
military service, he was employed for a year and a half as a complaint clerk
with the Dallas Police Department. On May 26, 1947 he became associated with
Oilwell Division of The United States Steel Corporation, where he remained for
over 31 years. At his death, he was an emergency order specialist in the
purchasing department.
He was an active member of First Baptist Church, Carrollton, and an avid
supporter of the R. L. Turner Lions football team. He was also an accomplished
pianist.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, July 31, in the chapel of Restland
Funeral Home. Rev. Wayne L. Allen, his pastor, was the officiant, Interment
followed at Restland Memorial Park, beside the grave of his beloved father, who
died in 1960. The pallbearers were Howard Cox, John Wall, Bill Fuller, John
Pool, H. D. Glasscock, Martin A. Wilson and Raymond Powell.
