OBITUARY

 
CDR Gwinn Corley
1942 - 2016

CDR Gwinn Ellis Corley was born November 29, 1942 in Dallas, TX to Henry and Laurine Corley and passed away October 14, 2016.

He was a graduate of Baylor University, Waco, TX. After teaching high school in Carolton, TX he joined the United States Navy where he became a commissioned officer and aviator.

CDR Corley retired from the United States Navy in 1992 after 24 years of service where he flew the A-4 Skyhawk and A-7 Corsair. Following his tour as a flight instructor, he transited to the Navy's Electronic Warfare Support Group. CDR Corley was the commanding officer of Fleet Electronic Warfare Support Group Detachment, North Island, CA before retiring.

Following military service, he earned his master's degree from Old Dominion University, Norfolk, VA and later taught school in Pensacola, FL at Pensacola High School and Woodham High School before spending 15 years as the executive director of Keep Pensacola Beautiful; most will remember the organization as Clean and Green. Gwinn was involved in many community activities including the Fiesta of Five Flags and Sertoma.

CDR Corley is preceded in death by his parents; son, Stephen Ryan Corley; brother, Rolan D. Corley and stepfather, J. B. Hill.

He is survived by his loving wife and soul mate, Diane Corley of Pensacola; daughter, Stacie (Billy) Johnson of Pace, FL; brothers, Mickey (Kim) Corley of Malakoff, TX and Jeff (Diedre) Hill of Gilmer, TX; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. with service 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 27, 2016 at St. Luke United Methodist Church, 1394 East Nine Mile Road, Pensacola.

Trahan Family Funeral is in charge of arrangements.
