OBITUARY Death Comes Suddenly to Mrs. Cox at
Home of Son Mrs. Laura Bailey Cox of this place died quite
suddenly at the home of her son, Roy Bailey, at 11 o'clock Friday night
following an acute heart attack. Mrs. Cox, who makes her home with her son, Jay
Bailey, was at the home of Roy helping to care for his wife and a new son
recently arrived. During the night she began to feel sick and summoned aid but
death came quite soon.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in the Union Baptist church, Rev.
L. M. Joines having charge of the services, and assisted by Rev. A. W.
Cunningham, Rev. W. N. Vernon, and J. W. Gravley. Interment was made in Perry Cemetery. The pallbearers were Lem Cromer, Frank Burgess, Elmer Thompson,
Darrell Myers, Bob Gentry and Walter Evans, all member of the fire department.
Mrs. Cox was born in Frankfort, Ky, Aug 25, 1868
(headstone has Aug 28, 1869) and was aged 63 years, 3 months, and 25
days at the time of her death. Her first marriage was to Mr. Bailey and there
were seven children, one daughter, Esta Roch, and six sons, Ernest and Walter
who reside at Cumby; Jack in Arizona; Jay, Roy and Gola, here. Two children were
born of the Cox marriage, Iva Cox and Mrs. Artis Whitlock, wife of Perry
Whitlock. All of the children were present at the funeral except Jack of
Arizona. There are nineteen grandchildren. The Carrollton Chronicle -
